Jacqueline Davies
Wellesley High School Author: Jacqueline Davies (1980)
A stellar English student at WHS, Jackie majored in Creative Writing at Brown, but she began her writing career in marketing. During a spare moment in 1992, she wrote her first children’s book, a picture book about a discontented blowfish; the book remains unsold to this day. Her resilience saved the day, though, and she has been a successful and prolific writer of children’s literature ever since. Her books charm the young reader, and The Lemonade War series might be her most beloved of her 17 books.
Her books have won numerous awards, including the NSTA Outstanding Science Trade Book for Students K-12, the John Burroughs List of Nature Books for Young Readers, The Sigurd Olson Nature Writing Award, the New York Library’s Best Books List, the NCSS Notable Social Studies Trade Book for Young People, the IRA/CBC Children’s Award Notable Book for Fiction, the Bank Street College of Education’s Best Children’s Books, and the CCBC Choices Award. She has read at local independent bookstores for many years.
