George Mastras
Wellesley High School Author: George Mastras (1984)
In an example of sibling rivalry at the highest level, at the 2013 Emmy Awards, George Mastras (Breaking Bad) was up against his sister Maria Mastras Jacquemetton (Mad Men). This time, George won.
George wrote, directed, and produced Breaking Bad for its entire five-year run, and in addition to the 2013 Emmy (and multiple other Emmy nominations), also won the Pen USA Literary Award (for best teleplay), and three Writers Guild of America Awards for the show.
After WHS, George graduated from Yale and then UCLA Law School; worked in the public defender’s office and as a defense attorney; then found his way to Hollywood. He is also a novelist — Scribner’s published Fidali’s Way, a thriller based on his travels to Pakistan.
