ASSISTIVE SERVICES FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES

IN HOME PROGRAM

The Wellesley Free Library is pleased to share the riches of its collection with members of the community who are elderly or unable to come to the Library because of disabilities or acute medical problems.  This service can be provided after an illness or hospitalization, or on an extended basis when access to the library is impossible.

A van driven by a library custodian will pick up and drop off items to the resident at the door of his dwelling on a regularly scheduled 3 week interval.  The loan period varies for Wellesley materials - Click here for further information.

We are happy to choose titles on a particular subject or find titles specifically requested.  We will photocopy newspaper articles or magazines at 15 cents per page.

If you are a resident interested in our IN HOME Service, please call the Wellesley Free Library at 781-235-1610, ext. 1114.  Leave a message including your name and home number.  The IN HOME Librarian will call you to discuss your reading preferences and set up a delivery schedule.

ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY - ASSISTANCE FOR READERS WITH LOW VISION

The Main Library owns three Optelec reading machines which were donated by the Friends of the Wellesley Free Libraries and a private donor. These low-vision reading machines allow people experiencing limited vision to read books, newspapers, magazines, personal correspondence, recipes, bills, crossword puzzles and even photographs through a Closed Circuit TV (CCTV) magnification system.  The Optelec machine is a self-contained, compact unit which requires only 14 x 18 inches of table space near an outlet.  One Optelec machine is available on the reference floor, another is in the light filled Periodical Room on the first floor, and the third can circulate to interested patrons.  Call 781-235-1610 x 1117 for more information.

LARGE PRINT & AUDIOBOOKS

The Wellesley Free Library has an extensive collection of recorded audiobooks available on tape, compact disc, and downloadable digital files.

There are over 4,000 large print books for adults, with new titles being added regularly.
